Tap Dancing on the rise in France.

The film "The Artist" arouses interest from the audience for Tap Dancing.

Dominique Benasini, president of the French delegation of Jazz Dance (FFDJ-IDO) and representative of professional tap dancers declared : "The medias have talked about the film a lot. Thus putting tap dancing in the spotlights which is very good for our profession".  In his school in Lyon (South of France), he observed a rise in the subscriptions to his classes during the last few weeks. Hervé Le Goff, tap dancing teacher in Paris also said : "More and more people come to take introductory tap dancing class."

Thanks to "The Artist", those who are nostalgic for Gene Kelly and Fred Astair will be happy as the torch of tapdancing has been passed on to a new generation of young dancers. Dominique Benasini also admitted that whenever there was a rebroadcast of one of those classic 50s movies, he received a flow of phone calls by people who got interested in tapdancing." Modern TV shows like "You Can Dance" also helps to give a visibility to this dance as well as the famous Irish "Riverdance" show who are doing world tour every year.
